How this works
The calculator invests each instalment at the start of the month and compounds it for the rest of the tenure. When a step-up is set, the monthly amount rises on every twelfth month, which mirrors how fund houses apply step-up mandates.
Frequently asked
- How is the SIP maturity value calculated?
- Each monthly instalment is invested at the start of the month and compounds at the expected rate for the remaining tenure. The calculator simulates every month rather than using a single closed-form formula, which is what lets it handle annual step-ups and part years correctly.
- What is a step-up SIP?
- A step-up SIP increases your monthly contribution by a fixed percentage every year, usually in line with your salary growth. Even a 10% annual step-up changes the final corpus dramatically over long tenures.
- What return should I assume?
- Long-run equity mutual fund returns in India have historically fallen in the 10โ14% range, but past performance guarantees nothing. Debt funds and hybrid funds are lower. Use a conservative number and treat the result as a plan, not a promise.
